How we live, what we eat impacts life around us. Our consumer choices have far-reaching and complex repercussions for the environment, our health and the wider social construct. Yet, many of us believe we have it figured out, and know what is right or wrong. The debate is loud and hot. You can fight it, but sooner or later you will find yourself in the midst of it.

Why do so many of us fail in having fruitful conversations about what we choose to put on our plates? More often than not, conversations get corrupted by our emotions, leaving us heartbroken in the absence of valuable lessons learnt. Even though we have two ears and one mouth, we shout and forget to listen.

Can we flip the script? After reflecting on my recent adventures, I picked five leading principles that help me cultivate civil conversations about my lifestyle. Be it at a festival or on holiday with friends and family.

Nobody wins when vegans walk on eggshells. It’s up to us be more in order to do more for this planet we call home. Having fully plant-based dinners during our family holiday among meat lovers proves to me that progress is taking place. Playing it cool makes things digestible and attractive for others. I hope these five tips help you do the same.

Bringing it home

The latest weeks spent among friends and family in Hungary confirmed that we can elevate one another instead of tearing each other down. We just have to be willing. Marry passion with patience and see the magic unfold!
